I’m Danielle Derby, a Canadian contemporary artist and author based in British Columbia.

My work is inspired by the quiet beauty of the natural world, the places we hold onto, and the moments that stay with us long after they’ve passed.

Through painting, texture, woven elements, and words, I explore the connections between memory, emotion, and the landscapes around us. I’m drawn to the spaces between things — between stillness and movement, what we see and what we feel, who we were and who we’re becoming.

My creative journey has never followed a straight line. Art and writing have become two ways of exploring many of the same questions, allowing me to express what isn’t always easy to put into words.

In 2026, I published my first book, The Golden Thread: A Journey Back to Myself, a deeply personal exploration of loss, change, resilience, and finding our way back to ourselves.

Whether I’m painting a familiar coastline, weaving a thread through a canvas, or putting words to paper, my hope is to create something that invites you to pause, feel, and perhaps recognize a little of your own story.
